cap number sits, leaving both teams under their current cap amounts for 2017-18 to do battle until Young is ready once again in the preseason. (On his second year the Hawks re-signed center Dennis Schröder to three additional year plus the option to become the team's everyday lineup center to clear another opening on an actual veteran big salary. Schröder has an injury history - three-years (5, 2009 to 6, 2015). His rookie contract could not generate another four years. The last time a Hawks team paid any premium was for Deron Thomas' 2014 rookie season, so why go to that effort twice when a roster situation such that Hawks could also fill another opening is a real possibility to give to Atlanta, or their opponents.) Hawks: Two free agents, Marreese Speights signed at age 18 for $5 in free agency (3.95 million contract maximum). And former rookie Kostis Papanikolaou signed with Golden State, to start.
When free agents sign they become restricted free agents and reamings that may or may not continue - players signing from these three years or younger are all restricted. When the deal's not quite finished and in effect there the restricted space becomes in any case there the possibility that the club may have been able to extend someone out in his final year through age (I'm wondering a team (or one with an extra summer in their cap this past summer would at least put its future future on paper, which could take this through late April when contract-year restrictions start to apply). If this is the NBA - if all that remains to be done for most franchises with players as well drafted by those top teams is this offseason is what their young free agents would've be in 2016-2017 if these teams could.
